Aids Healthcare Foundation has urged the Malawi Government to commit itself to mechanisms and strategies designed to end tuberculosis (TB).
The foundation has also asked political leaders to participate in the forthcoming of the United Nations General Assembly for high level meeting on tuberculosis that will be held on September 2, 2023, in New York, USA, for the fundraising of delivery and control of tuberculosis in African countries which include Malawi.
The sentiments were made in Lilongwe during interactive deliberations with the media and civil society organisation pertaining to the improvisation of TB services.
Aids Healthcare Foundation Director of Quality Management and Medical Logistics, Dr. Lydia Buzaalirwa, said the proposal involves negotiation and discussion around the rapid scale up of an availability of shorter and effective TB treatment for better outcome.
“There is a need to consider the issue of integrating TB services both at community and health facility level,” said Buzaalirwa.
Head of Programs at Facilitators of Community Transformation (FACT), Aggrey Munthali, disclosed that leaders are supposed to implement the increase in funding towards health security issues.
Among other issues, global efforts and commitments are being implemented and tracked to monitor the progress towards ending the TB pandemic by 2030.
However, there is a need to have a rapid adoption of point of care for diagnostics as it has proven that it works out.
