President and board chairperson of the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira, has issued a three-month ultimatum to the club to demonstrate their readiness for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup.

In an interview, the influential business figure and philanthropist emphasized that the players must showcase their worthiness for participation in the continental tournament through their performance.

“It’s entirely up to them,” Mpinganjira asserted, “We have until June or July to make a decision regarding the tournament. During the recent Meet and Greet Dinner, I presented them with this challenge. Let’s wait and see.”

During the same event held in Blantyre, Mpinganjira outlined his expectations for the team: to secure victory in the TNM Super League and clinch at least two additional cups.

“Interestingly, they responded with even more ambitious targets,” he added. “So, the responsibility lies with them now. I’ll be observing closely from a distance.”

Mpinganjira revealed that he engaged with both the technical staff and players during the dinner, fostering a positive atmosphere of interaction.

“I had conversations with everyone at their tables, and it was a delightful exchange,” he remarked.

Addressing the players directly, Mpinganjira emphasized their pivotal role in the club’s future: “The decision to participate in a CAF tournament or to play locally rests with you. Your performance will determine our support for international tournaments. The ball is in your court.”

He continued, “We will continue to incentivize good performance on the pitch. I am even willing to significantly increase bonuses for victories. I expect an improved performance this season.”

Yasin Osman, the club’s technical director, stressed the importance of setting high targets to motivate both players and the technical team.

“As a prominent club, aiming high is imperative,” Osman stated. “Players understand that achieving targets brings rewards and recognition. It’s crucial for their growth and the club’s success.”

When asked about the feasibility of these targets, Osman expressed confidence, drawing inspiration from the achievements of rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets.

“If they can do it, why can’t we?” Osman exclaimed. “Last season’s setbacks were largely due to mental attitudes, but with focus and unity, success is within reach.”

Lawrence Chaziya, the newly-appointed team captain, assured Mpinganjira of the players’ commitment to meeting expectations.

“We are determined to bring joy to the Wanderers family, sponsors, and supporters this season,” Chaziya affirmed.

The Nomads, who finished third last season, kick off their campaign against Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre this Sunday.
