Mwandida Kabitchi of Neno received relief items such as maize flour, cooking oil, blankets, soap, beans, dry fish and clothes from the well wishers after her house caught fire on August,15, 2023.

Speaking during the donation, Chairperson of the grouping, Dr. Tabitha Kaira said Reach out Foundation and Andrews donated the items to ease the plight of Kabitchi who lost everything in the inferno.

She added that the group mobilised resources through a social media platform, Facebook where people donated cash and on the other hand Andrews mobilised funds from Malawians based in the UK.

“Our major donors are our sisters in the UK led by Alice Andrews who mobilised resources for the cause.” Kaira said and further appealed to Malawians to help one another in times of difficulties as most people are in dire need of assistance when disasters occur

“Let me urge fellow Malawians to make good use of social media to change lives of people in need,” Kaira added.

She disclosed that the group was still mobilising resources to build a house for Kabitchi, adding that the house is at foundation stage as other well-wishers through Neno District Council have embarked on the house project.

Responding to the gesture,Kabitchi thanked the group saying the items will help to ease some of the challenges she is facing following the fire incident.

Neno District Council, Disaster and Relief Management Officer, Brighton Mphinga also thanked the group for providing the donation and he called on people and organisation to emulate the gesture by Reach out Foundation and Alice Andrews.

“We have started constructing a house for Kabitchi with the little resources from well-wishers and we are appealing to well-wishers to help us because we have no resources, We’re relying on well-wishers to help us construct the house that will cost about K3.million,” he said.

Chairperson for Chekucheku Area Civil Protection Committee (ACPC) Sydney Menyani appealed for more support saying construction of a house will be a permanent solution for Kabitchi’s accommodation problem

A young boy who came to play with Kabitchi’s children unintentionally set the house ablaze.
