In a concerted effort to align with the ambitious Malawi 2063 Vision, the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) district branch joined forces with officers from the Mchinji Police Station. This dynamic partnership culminated in an enlightening workshop held on September 12, 2023, under the banner of “Mindset Change as a Catalyst for Socioeconomic Transformation.”

The workshop, which gathered approximately 20 officers from various branches at the Mchinji Police Station, showcased a robust exchange of ideas and strategies.
Mr. Emmanuel Banda, the District Civic Education Officer for Mchinji, took center stage to deliver a comprehensive presentation.
Emmanuel Banda elucidated the critical roles played by police officers in the implementation of the Vision. One of the key points he underscored was the role of the police force as a guardian of integrity, emphasizing its vital role in the crusade against corruption.
“Police, as a law enforcement agency, is there to play a crucial role in ensuring that the country is corruption-free, as some of the guiding steps towards the implementation of the Vision,” remarked Banda.
Banda issued a passionate call to action, urging the assembled police officers to embody optimism, hard work, patriotism, accountability, and integrity at all levels of society. These qualities, he stressed, are paramount in leading the nation towards the adoption and successful integration of new paradigms essential for realizing the Malawi 2063 Vision.
NICE proposed a multifaceted approach, blending a top-down and bottom-up strategy. This approach aims to engage leaders as change catalysts and empower communities as active participants in the implementation process.
On behalf of the Officer In-Charge for Mchinji Police, Mr. John Wilson Nkhoma, a Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP), Assistant Superintendent Elizabeth Jiya, expressed gratitude to NICE for their insightful presentation.
She highlighted the alignment of the workshop’s goals with the Malawi Police Service Strategic Development Plan, a roadmap the service is fervently pursuing, aiming to achieve its milestones by the middle of the next year.
Jiya also assured that the station stands ready to incorporate the workshop’s agenda into their daily operations.
