Mzuni Council applauds Chakwera for institution’s development

Chairperson for Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Council, Ambassador Hawa Ndilowe has commended President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for guiding the council to make Mzuni great, honorable and relevant towards the development of the country.

Ambassador Ndilowe was speaking, Thursday during the Mzuni’s 26th Graduation under the theme ‘Increasing the greatness, honor, relevance, and impact of Mzuni,’ which was presided over by President Chakwera.

“The university’s council, appointed by the President on December 26, 2023, developed a 10-year strategic plan which is built on five key pillars and aligned to Human Capital Development which is a 5th enabler in the Malawi2063,” said Ambassador Ndilowe

She said that through the plan, the council intends to raise the bar of excellence at Mzuni, besides enhancing initiatives aimed at increasing students’ enrolment, improving learning environment and promoting quality academic programs.

“We are expanding industrial linkage by promoting niche programs such as Tourism and Hospitality to strengthen the university’s financial base.

“We are also having through Mega Farm Initiative, Choma Investment Farm designed to support the development of university’s governance and infrastructure. Our vision is therefore   seeing student enrollment increase by 19,000 by 2030,” she said.

She appealed for a culture of unity and purpose for the betterment of the university and advised the graduates to be skilled, knowledgeable and well-mannered in the course of pursuing their careers.

Vice Chancellor for Mzuni Prof. Wales Singini emphasized on the need for unity, good leadership, academic excellence and strategic planning to elevate the university’s contribution towards the country’s development.

He thanked the President and the university’s council for supporting the institution through collaborative efforts that have shaped the university’s progress.

“Today we stand tall as Mzuni because of the President’s unwavering support to Mzuni and guidance to the council,” Prof. Singini said.

He then highlighted the university’s continued engagement with industry and various stakeholders in reviewing academic programs to ensure that the institution produces highly competent graduates.

“Let me call the entire university’s community to unite in pursuit of our goals and continue building on the institution’s legacy of excellence,” said Prof. Singini.
