Bushiri unveils K60m women’s football sponsorship

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has said the launch of Malawi Women’s Football sponsorship will support the development of the sport in the country.

Bushiri was speaking on Friday in Lilongwe where he unveiled a K60 million sponsorship to the women’s football. 

Of this, K29 million will be used for the trip of the National Women’s Football Team the ‘Scorchers’ to COSAFA tournament next week in South Africa.  

Bushiri said K10 million will be used for allowances since the Scorchers has been facing numerous challenges on getting their allowances.

The remaining K21 million will go to Goshen Women’s Football League. 

“There was a serious gap, and we wanted to fill up the gap by supporting women’s football. This is relationship will exist between Goshen brand and the football fraternity,” said Bushiri.

Bushiri has therefore challenged the football fraternity that his commitment will tremendously grow for improving the Sporting activities in Malawi. 

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu expressed gratitude over the sponsorship saying, “This has never happened before for the Scorchers”. 

Nyamilandu said the boost of player allowances with K10 million will help to uplift thier thin pockets.

“In these hard economic times, it is not easy to get a sponsorship like this. We are extremely excited over this gesture.” expressed Nyamilandu. 

President for Association of Women’s Football in Malawi Adelaide Migogo explained of the importance of sponsorship that will unlock doors of opportunities to the ladies in football. 

She said,” This is part of the women empowerment and should we do better so that others emulate.”

Speaking during the launch Scorchers player Martina Ngulube explained about challenges faced when they are engaged in women’s football. 

Martina also expressed concerned over unaware of different parents who have potential girls’ footballer, but rejects them and that needs to change.
