MERA warns against illegal sale, storage of fuel

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has warned Malawians against illegal vending and storing of fuel, saying the law will take its course if caught.

MERA’s Consumer Affair and Public Relations manager Fitina Khonje sounded the warning during a one-day sensitization meeting with members of Zomba Press Club. 

Khonje stressed that the media has a critical role to play in disseminating energy regulations issues to the public.

“As MERA, we are mandated to create consumer awareness and educations on energy issues so we took this opportunity to interact with members of Zomba press club to sensitize them on energy regulation matters so as MERA our expectations is that there will be improve understanding of energy regulations and fair reporting of energy issues at the end we want to have the consumers and the general public that is well informed about energy issues,” she said.

Khonje asked citizens to hold one another accountable to stop illegal sale and storage of petroleum products.
