The Ingwina overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit with a commanding 2-0 win in the second leg, powered by a brilliant second-half brace from Alfred Chizinga.

Chizinga’s goals, coming after a tightly contested first half, sent Karonga fans into wild celebrations as their side confirmed a spot in the semifinals for the first time in the tournament’s history.

After the match, Karonga United’s assistant coach Chris Chimkwita expressed his excitement, describing the game as tough but rewarding.

“Karonga United is improving with each and every game. It was a very difficult match, but we had an advantage because we were a better side. We planned to score not less than two goals, and we are happy to have progressed to the competition’s next round,” said Chimkwita.

On the other hand, Mighty Wanderers Head Coach Bob Mpinganjira accepted the defeat with dignity.

“We gave it all, but we were not lucky to get the much-needed goals. It was a very good game. Karonga utilised their chances and scored the goals,” Mpinganjira remarked.

Karonga United now awaits the winner between Civil Service United and Mzuzu City Hammers in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who edged Creck Sporting Club 1-0 away on Saturday, will face the winner between Silver Strikers and Moyale Barracks in the other semifinal.
