The items included maize flour, sugar, soap and clothes, among others.

Speaking after making the donation, creator and author of Bwande radio cartoon, Deus Sandram, said the group was concerned with the devastating effects of cyclone Freddy that has affected several districts in southern region including Blantyre.

“As a group we saw it important to join hands in helping our friends who have been affected by this cyclone. I thank all people (Bwande partners) who contributed to this initiative”, he said.

Village head woman Mpoto real name Daina Makalani who spoke on behalf of beneficiaries thanked the group for the donation saying her village has high number of affected families and asked all well-wishers to come with any support to help those who are still in camps.

“My village was heavily affected by this cyclone, we have almost 315 households that were affected and some are still living in camps. I am grateful with this support and ask all well-wishers to support us”, she said.

Tropical Cyclone Freddy induced torrential rains from 11-13 March 2023 that caused havoc in 14 districts in the southern region. The impact of the cyclone displaced 659,278 people, 676 died with 918 injuries while 537 others are still missing as of Thursday 30 March 2023.
