The incident occurred on the afternoon of November 27, 2023 at Inje village in the district.

The six have been identified as Denis M’dula Ng’amba, 51, Josam Micheza, 72, Jephtah William, 70, Samson Paulo, 26, Tionge Gundamavu, 26, and Dearson Gundamavu, 39, all from Inje village in Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi.

According to police findings there are chieftancy wrangles between Village Headman Kanyenda and Inje and their issue is still in court for over three years and since then, the two villages have been on loggerheads.

It is alleged that on the said date the villagers from Kanyenda who dressed in Nyau regalia invaded into Inje village and ransacked the house of chief Inje and later set it ablaze, unfortunately the owner was inside who eventually got burned.

He was then rushed to Mtengowanthenga Mission Hospital for treatment after he sustained severe burns and his condition was serious.

Through intelligence gathering, during the night of February 6, 2024, Police managed to arrest the six suspects and charged them with the said counts.

Meanwhile investigations are underway to arrest the remaining culprits who are still at large. The suspects will appear before court as soon as Investigations are concluded.
