Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, said the incident happened on February 11 this year at M’bondo Village, Traditional Authority Chowe in the district.

“The suspect went to a nearby shop to buy airtime. Upon noticing that he had stayed longer than expected, the wife followed and met him on his way back home. A quarrel erupted between the two over infidelity issues as the wife accused him of seeing another woman which led to a fight upon arrival at home,” said Daudi.

She said Josaya left his matrimonial house the same night after the fight.

According to Daudi, neighbours heard uncontrollable cries of a baby from the house which was locked from inside.

The neighbours forced the door open and found the wife lying dead on the floor with multiple head injuries and blood oozing from the nose and mouth.

“The matter was reported to Mangochi Police Station and a team of police officers rushed to the scene of the crime and took the body to Mangochi District Hospital where postmortem results revealed that she died due to head and internal injuries,” said Daudi.

Josaya, who hails from Makawa Village, Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi, will appear before court after investigations to answer murder charges which contravenes Section 209 of the Penal Code.
