Korean Government donates motor vehicle and IT equipment worth US$ 150,000 to Foreign Affairs 

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo made the remarks Wednesday in Lilongwe during a handover ceremony of the state-of-the-art Hyundai Protocol motor vehicle and Information Technology (IT) equipment from the Government of the Republic of Korea to the Government of the Republic of Malawi valued at US$150,000.

She said the generous donation that would go a long way in facilitating the diplomatic work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“As a ministry, the donation of the Hyundai Protocol motor vehicle will not only enhance mobility, but o ensure that the business of the institution is undertaken with speed,” Tembo said.

She said in this era of the internet and digital revolution, the IT equipment consisting of a video conference facility, multipurpose printers, desktop computers, laptop computers, tablets, and scanners would enable the Ministry to reach out to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the country and its diplomatic missions across the world with much ease.

The Minister assured Government of Korea that the Government of Malawi would ensure that the Hyundai protocol motor vehicle and the IT equipment would be carefully managed and maintained.

She applauded the fact that the two countries have enjoyed longstanding diplomatic relations since 1965 clocking 58 years of comprehensive, robust, and mutually-beneficial cooperation.

“The signs of mutual cooperation between the two countries have been manifested in many fields of development, including capacity building and training as well as humanitarian assistance,” Tembo added.

She said the Government of Korea continues to provide scholarships for short and long-term training to officers from the Government of Malawi, thereby boosting human resources development in the country.

Tembo noted that in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate change phenomenon, the Government of Korea has been forthcoming in supporting the Government of Malawi with humanitarian assistance to address the attendant challenges faced by the people of the country.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malawi, Do Bong-Kae said Malawi 2063 targets globally competitive and highly motivated human resources in the country.

He said in view of the vision, the Korean government has prioritized educational cooperation to support Malawi’s capacity-building of human resources.

Bong-kae said the Korean Government supported the establishment of the Korea-Malawi Information Access Centre in December 2018 which was opened at the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) in Lilongwe.

“In July 2022, Korean International Cooperation Agency by cooperating with the Korean civil organized, opened radio broadcasting in Dedza to provide distance education for some 20,000 students in the district,” he added.
