Stakeholders urged to understand electoral processes in Neno

Neno, July 18, Mana: Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has underscored the need for electoral stakeholders to understand issues on electoral process so that they disseminate the right information to the electorates.

MEC Commissioner Dr Emanuel Fabiano said this Tuesday at Neno Community Hall during a meeting with Members of Multiparty Liaison Committee and District Elections Supervisory Team on the establishment of voter registration and constituency tally centres.

“We also came to discuss with stakeholders on the importance of all people who will be involved in the electoral process to understand issues that pertain to the requirements for one to be an eligible voter,” he said.

Dr. Fabiano said the meeting was also aimed to discuss with electorates and stakeholders the new boundaries of constituencies and wards so as to re-align the polling centres and polling stations so that people know where they will cast their votes.

He said the issue of new boundaries and new constituencies and wards was completed in December 2022.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Neno North Thoko Tembo commended MEC for an additional constituency saying the terrain of the district was making people travel long distances to cast their votes.

He said the increase from two to three constituencies in the district will foster development.

“The increase to three constituency’s means that Neno communities will have better representation,” he said.

He added that Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will go a long way in making sure that Neno district is developed than it was before because the constituencies have been split.

Neno District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga said he is happy that political parties present during the meeting agreed to the new boundaries.

Neno district has now three constituencies namely Neno North, Neno South and the newly established Neno East.
