He however emphasized that the company remains committed to fairness, transparency, and corrective action.
“Vendors use locals to buy and resell maize at inflated prices, Unit Market Officers collude with traders for bulk after-hours sales at higher prices for personal gain, and some committee members enable repeat purchases, undermining rationing,” reads the statement.
The statement further says ADMARC has implemented strict measures, including controlling sales through its marketing department, enforcing rationing, and establishing oversight by Market Committees.
These committees, which consist of chiefs, church leaders, Village Development Committees, NGOs, and police officers, “oversee transactions and report discrepancies.”
Chiefs have also been given the authority to discipline committee members who engage in misconduct.
Makata further assured the public that ADMARC is addressing concerns regarding its weighing scales.
Makata also emphasized that ADMARC had already dismissed 16 individuals and suspended over 32 individuals for misconduct.
“The company assures the public that all scales are assized and certified by the Malawi Bureau of Standards. Any irregularities should be reported immediately.
“In the past year, ADMARC dismissed 16 employees, including three senior officials, suspended 32 others, secured three convictions, and has four cases ongoing,” reads the statement.
To ensure accountability, ADMARC is working closely with various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious leaders, and non-governmental organizations, to maintain order and fairness in maize sales.
