Amref Health Africa Malawi, in partnership with Pfizer Foundation through the Expanding Access to Covid-19 project, has donated a solar power system, seven vaccines carries, two cold boxers and a refrigerator to Nankhwali Health Centre in the area of Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the medical supplies and equipment on Tuesday, Amref Health Africa Malawi Programs Manager, Young Samanyika said they decided to donate solar power system to overcome electricity challenges the health facility faces.
Samanyika added that the refrigerator will help ensure that vaccines are accessible to communities in the hard to reach areas of the district.
He said Amref Health Africa was able to integrate Covid-19 administration into routine services in health centres cross seven districts, including Mangochi.

“Our expectation is that Covid-19 immunisation should be a service just as any other services such as malaria and diarrhea control, and it should be accessible to any Malawian.
“Apart from Covid-19 vaccine, the equipment will also be used to store other vaccines as a way of improving other services at the health centre,” said Samanyika.
Coordinator for the Expanded Program for Immunisation in Mangochi, Alinafe Hauya commended Amref Health Africa for donating the medical supplies and equipment saying it has been done at the right time when Nankhwali Health Centre has limited vaccine storage capacity and supplies.
“We are happy to be amongst districts that have benefited from Amref Health Africa project. This will enable children to receive the necessary vaccines and help reduce the burden on parents who previously had to travel long distances to Mangochi District Hospital for their children to get vaccinated,” said Hauya
Amref Health Africa is an international health development organisation which focuses on delivering health services and trainings to countries across Africa.
