Chipojola enters presidential race as independent candidate

Independent presidential aspirant Cosmas Felix Chipojola on Saturday submitted his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), officially entering the race for the September 16 general elections.

Chipojola, who presented his credentials at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe, named teacher Memory Naveko as his running mate, saying the choice reflects his commitment to inclusive leadership.

“My goal is to promote inclusivity because leadership should not be reserved for only prominent or loud individuals,” said Chipojola.

Describing himself as “new blood” in politics, Chipojola pledged to introduce fresh ideas and vowed to focus on economic transformation.

He said one of his key plans is to establish a nuclear power plant to boost energy generation for agricultural and industrial development.

He further announced that his campaign trail would begin in the Northern Region, specifically in Mzuzu, where he hopes to build momentum among the youth and first-time voters.

Chipojola expressed confidence in his leadership vision, calling on young people to rally behind his candidacy, which he believes represents a pathway to economic freedom and national development.

“I am the right candidate, and I want to develop Malawi and give it a brighter future,” he said.

He also expressed willingness to work with a wide range of stakeholders including security agencies, youth groups, and energy institutions like Egenco to ensure inclusive economic progress.

In her remarks, MEC Chairperson Justice Dr Annabel Mtalimanja confirmed that Chipojola had successfully submitted all the required documents for his nomination.

“All presidential nomination papers will undergo thorough scrutiny, and the final list of candidates will be announced by August 8,” said Mtalimanja.

She advised Chipojola to clearly articulate how his policies align with Malawi’s long-term development blueprint, Vision 2063.

“You are expected to explain how your political ideologies will meet the aspirations of the Malawian people,” she added.

Chipojola joins a growing list of candidates seeking the presidency in a tight race that is expected to be highly competitive, with the nomination process closing on July 30.
