The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has granted bail to former Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba, following her appearance over charges of abuse of office.
In its ruling, the court ordered Zamba to surrender her house in Area 43, Lilongwe as bail bond, and further directed her not to interfere with state witnesses. The court said the bail conditions were adequate to ensure compliance as the case progresses.
Zamba has been formally charged with abuse of office after allegedly authorizing the recruitment of 300 people into the civil service without following proper government procedures during the 2022/2023 financial year.
Zamba has not taken plea yet, while the State has asked for 14 days to finalize its investigations before the matter proceeds.
Zamba was arrested on Wednesday at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
