Mchinji Police launch manhunt for suspect involved in Cannabis cultivation without permit

Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer Limbani Mpinganjira told us in an interview that well-wishers notified the law enforcers that Banda was cultivating Cannabis in his backyard without a license.

Mpinganjira added that Banda went to Zambia when he noticed that police are on his trail.

Mpinganjira: We have launched a manhunt for Banda’s whereabouts

“This followed after police received a tip-off from some well-wishers that the man had cultivated about half an acre of cannabis in his garden. Upon noticing that the police had raided his cannabis field, the suspect bolted to the Zambian side. Police have so far managed to uproot about 200 Cannabis plants,” said Mpinganjira.

The Police publicist added that Malawi Poilce Services has joined forces with Zambia Police in tracing the whereabouts of the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Cannabis plants have been seized pending to be ferried to Chitedze Research Station for examination and analysis.
