Classroom block brings motivation to learners

Bwanje South Legislator in Ntcheu District, Alexander Chilikumtima, has expressed confidence the construction of Chimvano Primary School block worth over K48.8 million will bring motivation and hope to learners in the area.

The new classroom block is expected to contribute to the improvement of learning and teaching environment at the school.

The Bwanje South Parliamentarian made the remarks this week during the handover ceremony of the structure to the community in Sub Traditional Authority Mkutumula in the district.

“I am optimistic the school block will highly motivate eligible learners to enroll in school. We need to encourage the children to go to school and work hard,” said Chilikumtima.

He further commended Ntcheu District Council for accepting his request to construct a school block using Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

According to Chilikumtima, the construction of the new classroom block is part of government’s efforts to improve education in the country.

In his remarks, Ntcheu District Council Director of Public Works, Mathews Lungu, highlighted that in the past, the local council would buy materials for a project, but now the approach has changed whereby the council chooses a contractor who is financially and technically capable to manage the materials and the works.

He then saluted the local contractor, Valentine Building Contractors, for doing a commendable job and for involving local members of the community during the construction works.

“The school block is so magnificent; it looks like a well constructed GESD project, no theft or other cases at all were reported to the office,” said Lungu.

On his part, Chimvano Primary School Head teacher, Benson Chigoma, said the school opened in 1994 with only six classrooms and most learners were learning under tree shades or open air.

“I am very happy the learners will learn comfortably even during the rainy season. Books and other materials can be protected from termites and rains so the coming of the school block will definitely encourage learners to come to school,” said Chigoma.

STA Mkutumula commended government and the Legislator for bringing the development in his area.

The new classroom block has two classrooms, head teacher’s office and a staff room.

Chimvano Primary School has 718 learners with two teachers’ houses.
