Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko has expressed satisfaction with how Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations are being administered in Chikwawa.

Speaking to Malawi News Agency after touring Mitole and Jombo primary school clusters, Mdooko said at Mitole only one candidate, who was re-sitting for the examinations has withdrawn while all the candidates at Jombo primary school cluster showed up to write PSLCE examinations.

“Before Chikwawa, I inspected some schools in Lilongwe and Mchinji, I inquired why 19 candidates did not show up at Mitundu primary school, and I was told it is because they were selected to secondary schools during the second selection after they had already registered to re-sit for the examinations this year,” said Mdooko.

“I am also impressed with the tightened security around the premises where examinations are being administered and the teachers’ dedication in safeguarding the examination process,” she added.

Mdooko further hailed Malawi National Examinations Board for what she described as exceptional management of the whole exercise from the preparation stage, which has ensured a smooth administration of the whole examinations.

In his remarks Supervisor for the Jombo cluster Ephraim Paluma concurred with the minister that they have not encountered any problem since the examinations commenced on 10th May 2023.

“The good progress can be attributed to thorough preparations by all stakeholders including the candidates themselves,” said Paluma.

Paluma added that the Jombo cluster, which is under Zigoma Zone has 112 candidates and the composition is 66 males and 46 females.

According to Chief Education Officer for Chikwawa, Greystone Alindiamao, the district has a total of 1037 candidates sitting for the examinations in 81 clusters spread across the district.

“Out of these, 6053 are male candidates while 4320 are female candidates,” he said.

Across the country, 276,052 learners are sitting for the examinations which will end on Friday.
