Renowned film actor Edwin Chonde says he is ready to reveal the challenges that citizens from other countries face in South Africa and Malawi when searching for the greener pastures in these countries through his new production called “The Citizen”

The play which is scheduled to take place on 3 August 2024 at Madsoc Arts Theatre in in Lilongwe is said to bring out the life of people from other countries who migrated to South Africa to seek good life where among others they are denied access to some important services and various forms of torture due to lack of citizenship in that country.

According to Chonde, a lot of Malawian youth develop the interest of migrating to South Africa due to the lack of knowledge on the life experience of other people who migrated into the country.

“You know the south Africans made it possible to deal with Apartheid but still they are also the ones that are in the forefront discriminating people from other countries, Citizens from other countries are prone to numerous challenges but now is the time to understand these,” Chonde said.

He said Malawians are also doing the same hence describing the tendency as inhumane.

“Here in Malawi,we are also doing the same as our laws restrict citizens from other countries to live their life and do their activities freely, therefore, the play will reveal all those.such all these,” he added.

Chonde has since urged Malawians to come in large numbers to watch the play to see themselves the negative impact of such act to the lives of other people.

“Through this play you will never regret as a lot of things will happen there”he said

Chonde has also revealed that he has plans to perform the same play in Blantyre city.

The tickets for the event are at K4,000 and K5,000 for those who will pay on the same day.
