JEG Tellem impresses in new single, Momo

Being a year full of surprises entertainment-wise, the country has once again witnessed yet another surprise as Blantyre-based Afro music and Hip-hop artist, JEG Tellem, real name Joy Genneth Gondwe has released a new banger titled “Momo,” an inspirational song to everyone suffering in silence.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, JEG Tellem said the story behind the song is about struggles people in the ghetto go through and a reminder to people that they should keep on working hard despite passing through tough times.

He said the song is encouraging people to never give up on whatever they are doing considering that everyone went through some trials to get somewhere.

“I composed the song by looking at the life I am living and the things happening around me. This showed me how graceful God has been in my life,” JEG Tellem said.

The versatile artist went on to say that his fans and music lovers at large have received the song well considering that the song is being requested on various radio programs of different radio stations and Televisions.

“The fans love it. I thought there would be questions of my identity in the song with the lack of rapping but they seem to enjoy this new side,” he said.

“Momo” was released on Wednesday together with its video which is currently gaining numerous views on YouTube.

JEG Tellem: People love the song

JEG Tellem said the video was shot in some parts of Blantyre by Director Kante and its production was pegged at over MK 150,000 kwacha.

“The budget for the whole video was over MK 150,000. Towards the end of shooting, we had rains which damaged our drone but with God’s grace, all went well,” he said.

Barely 4 days after its release, Social Media, has gone wild with several Malawian users praising the song, branding it as the best song of the year.

Multi-award-winning artist, Wikise, showered praises for the song on his Facebook page saying JEG Tellem has killed the song.

He wrote: “Ambuye namalenga kumwambako mukamatchukisa ma artist chaka chino musamuyiwale m’zanga wa mfupi, JEG Tellem, chifukwa mfanayu amatha kwambiri.”

Meanwhile, JEG Tellem is planning of reaching more people with his music by performing in various shows across the country.
