Chiwosi Consultancy Firm, together with Excellence Assured and Genius X Computer Trainers, have shown their passion for empowering Malawi’s youth by offering free computer training sessions to boost their education and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Founders Blessings Chiwosi and Chipiliro Mizere said the initiative targets youths who have just finished their secondary school education, and have trained hundreds of young people in cities like Lilongwe and are now expanding the initiative to rural areas.
In an interview, Mizere told us that the idea is to empower youths to start their computer-related businesses and excel in their lives.
“The objective is to train more young people across Malawi in the coming months, the courses will be available in Lilongwe urban and rural, Blantyre, Zomba, and Mzuzu, with plans to expand to other districts in the future,” said Mizere.
In a separate interview, Chiwosi said the free ICT training will help realize both the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 4 and 9, and Malawi Vision 2063 pillar number on industrialization.
Chiwosi pointed out that the training has already had an instant impact on participants’ lives with many starting their own businesses while others found new professional opportunities.
“The initiative has already had a positive impact on the lives of those who have participated, with many going on to start successful businesses and others finding new professional opportunities. As the initiative continues to expand, it will be interesting to see the continued impact it has on the youth of Malawi,” he explained.
Felix Chimpeni, one of the beneficiaries of the free training from Lilongwe’s Mtandire township expressed his gratitude stating that the training has maximized his chances of getting employed as he has added value to his Curriculum Vitae by learning how to use Microsoft Office packages and acquiring other general computer skills.
“I have benefited by knowing how I can use the Microsoft Office packages, and other general computer skills on top of getting a certificate of training completion,” Felix said.
The free training which started in December last year is covering graphic designing, video production and editing, and computer lessons
