FOMO suspected of sponsoring timber ‘thieves’ in Mulanje

Founder and executive director of Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO), Mary Woodworth, has raised people’s eyebrows following her decision to provide support to 13 people accused of stealing timber from Chitakale Estate.

Founder and executive director of Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO), Mary Woodworth, has raised people’s eyebrows following her decision to provide support to 13 people accused of stealing timber from Chitakale Estate.

On Friday, a minibus belonging to FOMO was seen at Luchenza Magistrate Court where the case was expected to start.

The case was scheduled for bail ruling this morning, but no reason for adjournment has been said.

But the presence of the FOMO branded minibus at the court raised speculations that the charity organisation is supporting alleged criminals.

Police prosecutor Dalileni Kalanguluka said the senior resident magistrate Asunta Maxwell has set Monday 28th of August for bail ruling.

The estate, which has been destroyed, is owned by the business Magnet Leston Mulli and over K5 billion worth trees have been stolen.
