Head teacher commits suicide in Mzimba

A 59-year-old head teacher of St. Paul’s Primary School in Mzimba has died after taking pesticides.


According to  Mzimba police public relations officer Peter Botha, the deceased is Mortson Kamanga from Moses Kamanga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Khonsolo in Mzimba District.

“It is alleged that Kamanga took poisonous tablets, which most farmers use to treat maize grain after harvest on Wednesday December 6, 2023 at his home St. Paul’s location in the district,” Botha explained.

Botha further said that Kamanga was rushed to Trust Health Clinic where he was referred to Mzimba District Hospital where he died upon arrival.

 His body is still at Mzimba District Hospital pending postmoterm.

Police in the district is advising members of the public to report any issue affects them to Victim Support Unit (VSU) or any Police Formation to avoid such deaths.
