JUSTICE FOR BLESSINGS NYONDO, MBC complies with MHRC's recommendations to compensate late Blessings Nyondo's family
The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has commended public broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) for complying with the commission's recommendations to compensate family of late Blessings Nyondo's family.
MHRC's Executive Secretary Habiba Osman has commended the public broadcaster for the gesture.
According to Osman, MBC has agreed to settle the full compensation by March this year.
"As per commitment, the Commission wishes to notify the public that Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has agreed to out-of-court of court settlement with the family of late Blessings Nyondo and that MBC shall settle the full agreed compensation by March 2022.
"The Commission would like to commend MBC for complying with the recommendations of the commission and for their cooperation during the whole process," said Osman.
MHRC recommended that MBC should compensate late Blessings Nyondo's family for loss of their son and to mitigate their suffering.
Blessings Nyondo who was a student at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) formerly Polytechnic University died on 8 January 2021 at Queens Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre after he was shot by an MBC security guard at Kwacha Roundabout on 31 December 2020.
