President Lazarus Chakwera and his Botswana counterpart, Duma Boko, are leading Malawi’s 61st Independence Day celebrations at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where they are currently inspecting a military parade. The event will also feature a 21-gun salute as part of the official commemorations

People have gathered here at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where the official ceremony marking Malawi’s 61 years of independence is taking place.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is presiding over the event, while the President of Botswana, Mr. Duma Boko, is the guest of honour.

The celebration is being held under the theme: “Rebuilding Broken Foundations: Taking Malawi Forward.”
