President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has disclosed that they take advantage of the 78th Summit of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, US, to showcase the milestones Malawi has achieved on women empowerment.

Since he ascended to the Highest Office in Government, President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has led a number of initiatives aimed at raising the status and profile of women in Malawi.

President Chakwera has, among others, appointed many women leaders across the whole government structure, social protection programs, equal opportunities for jobs, businesses and education and general life development.

Some of the notable appointees include Director General of the Ant-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC), Colleen Zomba, and Professor Dorothy Nampota who is heading the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB).

Writing on his Facebook page after his arrival in New York, Chakwera said he and his delegation has already gone down to official business with a busy schedule on their first day.

“Thereafter, I will hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, to explore potential synergies our economies can build across sectors such as agro-processing and financial services, among others,” wrote the President.

President Chakwera also disclosed that he would be having an interface with Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, who is the Director General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to share experiences on how Malawi can best provide decent jobs and social security.
