Ndirande Police have arrested a 20-year-old man, Geoffrey Mwambazi for allegedly pouring boiling oil on a one-year-old baby after assaulting the baby’s mother.
Ndirande Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector, Chibisa Mulimbika said this happened at a place called B13 at Matope Trading Center in Ndirande Township, where the mother of the baby was selling fried meat when the suspect came to buy some, but with hidden intent.
‘‘It was reported that Mwambazi ate the fried meat worth K600 without paying and instead demanded some change, claiming that he had paid K2000. The woman told Mwambazi he had not paid any money yet, and she tried to stop him from leaving,’ Mulimbika added.

The publicist said Mwambazi insulted the woman, slapped her hard and violently tipped over the food stall, pouring the boiling oil onto the woman’s one-year-old baby boy.
‘‘The suspect fled the scene as the woman tried to attend to her baby. She rushed the child to a clinic in Ndirande, where she got referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for further treatment,’’ he added.
Mwambazi is currently in custody at Ndirande Police Station, waiting to appear before a court to answer a charge; Acts intended to cause grievous harm.
The police said this was a charge prosecutable in a court of law, according to Section 235 of the Penal Code.
