MANEB satisfied with management of 2025 PSLCE and JCE exams

Malawi’s 2025 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations have registered improved pass rates compared to last year, with officials hailing the progress but warning of persistent challenges such as gender disparities and poor performance in some districts.

The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has declared that the 2025 PSLCE and JCE results were leak-free well well-managed with e-registration and e-payment. MANEB made the remarks on Monday during a press briefing to announce the official release of the results in Lilongwe.

Professor Dorothy Nampota, Executive Director for MANEB, said that 247,958 students wrote PSLCE, with 216,972 passing, representing 87.50%, which is a slight increase from the 2024 results, whilst for JCE 158, 451 students sat for the exams and 122,977 passed, representing 77.61%, which is an improvement compared to past years.

“These results are valid, reliable, and were successfully administered,” she said.

She urged the public not to approach them directly with complaints but rather to contact their respective schools for assistance.

Dr. Grace Milner, the Director for Basic Education, said that out of the 216,972 candidates who passed the PSLCE examination, 103,261 have been selected to start Form One, representing a 47.59% transition rate to public schools, which is higher than 44.96% for the previous year.

“The number of candidates selected this year is higher than the 97,874 in 2024. This is due to the establishment of 11 new schools, other schools being turned into double shifts, and some into double or triple streams,” she said.

According to MANEB, to pass PSLCE, one must obtain 5 passes, including English, while in JCE, they must have 6 passes, including English . The best division for PSLCE is the Northern Division, followed by  Central West, South West, South East, Shire Highlands, and Central East.

The top school for PSLCE is Mkazomba from Lilongwe East, followed by Central from Southwest Junior Academy from Blantyre. Galeta Primary School in Mchinji is the worst-performing school, with a 0% pass rate, as no candidate managed to pass, followed by Kachere Primary School in Lilongwe.

Ludzi Girls Secondary School was announced as the best-performing school during this year’s JCE, with St Kizito Seminary coming second and Lilongwe Girls Secondary coming third. The worst-performing school was Good Choice from Nsanje, with no A’s or B’s.
