Minister of Labour, Peter Dimba, on Saturday officially opened Ngabu Technical College in Chikwawa, describing the facility as a key milestone in youth empowerment and skills development in the Lower Shire.
The college, which opened on July 21, was already offering courses in bricklaying, electrical installation, electronics, carpentry and joinery, and plumbing, with an initial enrollment of 160 students, comprising 95 males, 65 females, and five persons with disabilities.

“This college will transform lives by equipping young people with market-relevant skills. It is a step towards reducing youth unemployment and fostering self-reliance,” the minister added.
In his remarks, Chikwawa District Commissioner Nardin Kamba pledged to continue supporting the college, calling the technical college a timely investment in the district’s youths.
“This is a good step towards making our youths self-reliant, and I am urging the students and the community to safeguard the facility for future generations,” said Kamba.
One of the students, Patrick Lasibu, 22, said he is happy and will utilise the opportunity to shape his future.
“We now have access to skills training closer home, without the burden of long travel or high costs,” he said.
