ACB brings anti-corruption services to Ntcheu rural areas

The country’s corruption fighting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), has taken anti-corruption services to rural communities of Ntcheu to hear from them issues that they face in their respective areas.

Making her remarks on Wednesday at Ntonda Court in Traditional Authority Phambala in the district, ACB’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala said they wanted get actual information from communities regarding issues of corruption in their respective places

“We are carrying out various initiatives for two weeks in Ntcheu. These include sensitisation meetings on the evils of corruption with community leaders; procurement monitoring exercise; conducting road shows and holding football games among other activities in traditional authorities Phambala and Kwataine,” said Ndala.

She also disclosed that community leaders at Ntonda raised development, health service as well as Affordable Input Programme (AIP) as some of the major areas with issues that affect them.

“Sector heads will be required to come to the communities and respond to the issues raised,” she advised.

Ndala, however, was optimistic that the anti-corruption clinics would increase awareness among the members of different communities.

In his remarks, Phambala Area Development Committee (ADC) Chairperson, Herbert Wandawanda commended the ACB’s initiative of anti-corruption clinics, describing it as an eye opener.

He said members of his community were now ready to prevent and report corruption to ACB, noting that the vice retards development.

“We have been empowered to speak out on corruption issues in our communities. Further to that, we want councils to follow procedures when implementing projects,” said Wandawanda.

ACB officials had an interface meeting with council officials before conducting a clinic at Ntonda Court.
