Sunseed Oils Limited and Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) – a welfare organization and working independently, and striving to help people who are suffering from catastrophes –have joined Operation Tigwirane Manja in an effort to fast-track provision of relief supplies to survivors of Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

The two organizations have since donated relief items worth over MK60 million in Nsanje, Mulanje and Phalombe districts.

Of this, Sunseed Oils Limited provided over K40 million, which saw each of 1, 500 families getting one litre of Mulawe Cooking Oil, one unit of Sunsoap (140gm), five packets of Mulawe puffs, five kilograms of Mulawe maize flour and two packets of Ezee Instant noodles.

They organizations had to charter a helicopter to deliver the relief items as the road network remains impassable.

Sunseed Oils Limited Business Head Siddharth Sinha said the donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and that they will continue complementing government efforts in alleviating suffering and pain among the survivors.

Sinha said as a responsible business entity, they were concerned with loss of lives and devastation and damage caused to both public and private property.

He disclosed that it is against this background that Sunseed Oils Limited decided to partner with FGRF in a quest to assist people affected by the cyclone.

“We’re delighted to partner the Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera through his Operation Tigwirane Manja in providing assistance to the survivors. We wish to assure the government that we will continue providing support until the survivors recover from this devastation because the success of our business depends on a healthy and productive nation,” said Sinha.

FGRF Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Omar Mataya emphasized the need for people to join hands in helping the survivors.

Mataya said it is against this background that the foundation decided to partner with President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera in providing relief supplies to those affected by the cyclone.

The Pakistan Overseas Community patronized the event led by president Karamat Chaudhry.

Chaudhry said they believe that the hand that gives is more blessed than the one that receives.

“That’s why as a community, we thought it wise to help these people who are currently suffering in camps. We would like to assure that as a Pakistan Community in Malawi, we are committed to helping those in difficult situations,” he said.
