Youth Rights Campaigner Urges Caution in Handling Misunderstandings to Avoid Student Violence

Posted in

A youth rights campaigner, Young Achievers for Development-YAD, has warned political and religious leaders in the country to handle misunderstandings with caution to prevent breeding violent reactions from the youth, including students

The call comes amidst growing cases of students going on rampage and destroying school infrastructure when they differ with school authorities.

In a statement, YAD Executive Director Jefferson Milanzie said these incidents are retrogressive and a huge setback to national development.

He emphasized the need for school authorities to mitigate students’ grievances before things get out of control.

Milanzie: misunderstandings should be handled with caution t

Milanzie also calls on Malawian youths, including students, to take the lead in grooming responsible citizens to avoid careless acts that have the potential to ruin their future and frustrate the country’s dream of attaining Malawi 2063.

“Certainly, we cannot afford inviting an extra cost that will drain the national purse in correcting such avoidable mess! We strongly condemn such malpractice that has a long-term impact on infrastructure development in the education sector,” says Milanzie in a statement.

Recently, students in Mangochi, Zomba, and Neno damaged school property following differences with school authorities, disrupting classes. The incidents highlight the urgent need for effective conflict resolution strategies to promote peace and stability in schools.
