Senior Civic Education and Public Relations Officer for National Water Resources Authority (NWRA), Masozi Kasambara, has asked area development committees (ADCs) in Chitipa to ensure water related developments taking place in their areas have approval from the Authority.

Kasambara said this in Chitipa on Wednesday during a meeting with all the 10 ADCs in the district to sensitise them on NWRA’s functions and mandate.

Kasambara said the Authority engaged ADCs because they play key roles in implementation of projects in their areas.

Kasambara: ADCs are key to implementation of projects

“We would like ADCs to monitor whatever development that evolves around water resource taking place in their areas to ensure that we have sustainable water resources for all and have water that is of acceptable quality,” Kasambara said.

Chairperson for Nthalire ADC, Rex Mtambo, said the meeting was important to ADC members as it enlightened them on various aspects regarding management of water resources.

“We have Water Users Associations and other stakeholders who are players in the water sector and we are going to ask them if they have a water licence before they drill boreholes or engage in other water related activities in our communities,” he said.

District Commissioner for Chitipa, MacMillan Magomero, said the meeting had ignited ADC’s morale to monitor all water projects in their localities.

Established in 2013, NWRA’s mandate includes collaborating with relevant stakeholders to regulate and manage water resources which includes issuing licenses to borehole drillers and contactors, among other responsibilities.
