Silver Strikers, Chitipa United share spoils in a goalless league stale

Silver Strikers and Chitipa United FC have shared the spoils in a 0-0 stale mate during the TNM Super League match on Saturday, at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

The first half was nothing short of action with Silver Strikers having longer spells of possession while Chipita United provided ample resistance tagged with physical play to contain the league leaders to a goalless half.

In a post-match interview, Coach for Silver Strikers, Pieter De Jongh lavished the team’s opportunities while calling out for improved fair play as he lashed out at the officiation by referee Davie Chombo.

“We created a lot of chances, about 5 to 6 in the first half however we need fair play in Malawian football, there was an incident that needed a red card in the first half but the referee refused to give it.”

“The referee stole two points from me and my team and he also did not add the additional time at the end of the second half, how is that possible,” queried De Jongh. 

Meanwhile Coach for Chitipa United, MacDonald Nginde expressed satisfaction with the result and hailed his charges for taking heed of game instructions.

“We travelled, this was their home match and since we had also played on Wednesday in the FDH Bank Cup against Dedza Dynamos, I am happy with our performance against Silver Strikers.”

“The team is working hard, I will reveal my plans for the season after the first round of games as of now we are still collecting points,” said Nginde. 

To begin the second half, Silver Strikers introduced striker Atusaye Nyondo for Stenie Davie while Chitipa maintained their starting 11.

 The Bankers, Silver Strikers were quick to launch their attacks which resulted to consecutive corners with Chitipa tasked to be at their best defensively led by defenders, Blessings Joseph and Chris Lwemba.

Goalkeeper for Chitipa United, George Chikooka was outstanding in the second half which earned him the man of the match award as he stood tall denying attacks from Zebron Kalima, Nyondo and second half substitute striker Adiel Kaduya.

As of 1st July 2023 Silver Strikers remain top of the table with 25 points, followed by second placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets with 22 points, third is Mighty Mukuru Wanderers with 19 points while Chitipa United are fourth with 17 points.
