Children from five districts urged child-sensitive budgeting, saying hunger, overcrowded classrooms, lack of learning materials and absenteeism are pushing pupils out of school and threatening Malawi’s future workforce and development.
A 23-year-old Malawian graduate, Staff Nyoni, has developed a digital learning app called Blind Classroom to support visually impaired learners. The app, which includes screen-readers, AI-powered voice learning, and magnification tools, is already improving performance in two pilot schools.
Children in Salima District have expressed concern over the inadequacy of teaching and learning materials in public schools, stressing that the problem disadvantages underprivileged learners who cannot afford a private school.
