Two Aspiring MPs Challenge Unofficial Results in Salima

Aspiring MPs Linthipe Mike Mwawa and Jessie Kabwila have lodged complaints with MEC, citing alleged irregularities in unofficial election results. Kabwila stormed the Salima District Tally Center Friday before formally submitting her grievance, with MEC confirming the matter will be escalated to the National Tally Center.

Aspiring Members of Parliament for Salima South, Linthipe Mike Mwawa, and Salima Central West, Jessie Kabwila, have formally lodged written complaints with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), challenging unofficial results from Tuesday’s polls.

On Friday afternoon, Kabwila stormed the Salima District Tally Center to express her grievances but was advised to submit them in writing for official consideration by MEC.

District Elections Officer for Salima, Alinafe Chisenga, confirmed to Malawi News Agency that the Commission had received the complaints, citing alleged irregularities in the results.

KABWILA – She has challenged the unofficial results

“We will deliver the complaint letters to the National Tally Center alongside the district’s unofficial results today in Lilongwe,” said Chisenga.

Salima District has six constituencies, and all unofficial results have since been submitted to the District Tally Center, both Mwawa and Kabwila were contesting under the Malawi Congress Party.
