Woman nabbed for possessing Indian hemp

Police in Nkhata Bay have arrested a 39-year-old woman for allegedly being found in possession of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp.

Nkhata Bay Police Publicist, Kondwani James, said the woman identified as Mary Banda was arrested Monday night at Mkwiya Roadblock in the district.

“The woman was traveling in a minibus from Dwangwa in Nkhotakota to Mzuzu. Upon arrival at the mentioned roadblock, police conducted a thorough search in the minibus and found three big travelling bags and three small ones all containing the illicit drug belonging to the lady,” James said.

Banda hails from Kabuwa Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kanyenda in Nkhotakota District.
