Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) today goes for an elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) slated for Sunbird Hotel in Mzuzu where ten posts will be up for grabs.

Initially, the AGM was set to take place on June 17 this year before being shifted to today.

MASSA President Blackson Malamula said before the elections, delegates are expected to discuss issues bordering on developing sports at grassroot level.

But communication Nthanda Times has seen shows five positions, including the presidency, are going unopposed.

This means, Malamula goes unopposed for the second time after delegates gave him another vote of confidence during the 2019 elective AGM in Mangochi.

However, three people are vying for the Vice Treasurer General post, two for Basic Vice President, two for Women’s Representatives and the Private Schools representatives.

After assuming office four years ago, Malamula had pledged to revamp athletics and other minority sports in schools, enhance working relationship with other sports associations and construct a sports village that will house a sports academy.

“I would also like to improve our relations with international bodies such International Schools Sports Federation and Africa Schools Sports Federation while building capacity for all that run school sports in the country,” he said.

Again, he vowed to ensure that the association is self-reliant financially through fundraising activities and promote Paralympics sport in schools.
