After taking the country’s music circles by storm with a single he featured Billy Kaunda and Thoko Katimba, amapiano artist Avokado has again courted two gospel powerhouses – Shammal Vocals and the Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers in a new single titled “Patsogolo”, expected to hit airwaves on 1st September 2023.

In an interview, Avokado, known for his versatile musical style, revealed that his decision to collaborate with Shammal Vocals and the Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers was driven by a deep respect and admiration for their artistry.

“Kamuzu Barracks Singers and Shammal Vocalz are my favorite artists and having collaborated with Thocco Katimba, Billy Kaunda and other gospel artists, I felt my next project deserved Shammal and the soldiers,” said Avokado, whose real name is Christopher Malera, working as a professional teacher at Malawi Defense Force’s Support Battalion.

Avokado also highlighted his willingness to explore diverse collaborations, underlining his artistic journey.

“I am amapiano. I can do gospel amapiano, wedding amapiano, club amapiano and any type of amapiano depending on time and situations. People should expect more fire this year.”

In a separate interview, Chimwemwe Binauli, Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers lead vocalist said the partnership between gospel and secular artists doesn’t indicate rivalry, but rather a collective effort to uplift the message of faith.

Binauli described the collaboration as a symbol of a fresh approach to music, one that aims to captivate fans with a unique blend of gospel and amapiano.

“The collaboration simply means we can work together in uplifting the name of Jesus. Amapiano is something the group has never embarked on before. Additionally, Avokado is more of a family friend since we are also working with him under the same roof. Therefore, working with him is not mundane,” said Binauli.

Binauli added that the “Patsogolo” song has been made in a way that it will be everyone’s favorite tune.

“The song is the bomb, the grenade, an artillery, the hit maker which is likely to be a favorite of almost everyone. Currently Amapiano is a tune that has affected all age groups, be it young or old,” added Binauli.

The song’s title, “Patsogolo” which has been produced by Macksay Beatz and Melma of LCB Studios draws from a popular hymn sung in churches, conveying a message of optimism and anticipation for a brighter future.
