Senior Chief Makanjira of Mangochi on Monday patted President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on the back for ‘ending the problem of intermittent power outages in Malawi’.

Speaking during a development rally President Chakwera held at Makanjira Primary School Ground, the traditional leader complained that his area had stagnated in the attainment of its social and economic aspirations because of the blackouts the country used to experience in the previous years.

“But now, my subjects are able to engage in profitable activities such as barbershop business, welding and fabrication, carpentry and joinery and salon business because there is a reliable power supply. We commend the President for providing a policy direction that has seen a significant improvement in power supply,” said Senior Chief Makanjira.

At the same event, President President Chakwera launched the construction of Makanjira Centre for Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric  and Neoanatal Care.

In his remarks, Chakwera said the launch of the construction project demonstrates his desire to ensure that all Malawians, irrespective of their region, religion and political affiliation, have access to quality healthcare services at their fingertips.

He assured that his government will continue initiating and implementing infrastructure projects across the country.

While commending the President for his commitment to distribute the national development equally, Senior Chief Makanjira pleaded with Chakwera to consider constructing the 100-kilometre Mangochi-Makanjira Road.

“If you build this road, you will be voted in and win with a landslide,” he said, lamenting that all the previous administrations sidelined the area.
