RBM says the statement bearing the banks stamp is fake as it bears a signature of former governor of the bank.

Addressing journalists in Lilongwe on Friday, RBM Governor Dr Wilson Banda advised Malawians to ignore the statement.

Banda also appealed to journalists to publish verified information on matters of economy to avoid causing panic to the public.

The reserve bank conducted the press briefing with an aim of encouraging journalists on the importance of accurate reporting on the country’s financial status as Malawi is struggling with its economy.

Meanwhile, Banda has urged Malawians to keep calm and remove fears that kwacha may be devalued with additional 13% from the current 44%, saying government is working around the clock to stabilize the country’s economy.
