Rumphi Police arrest hospital pharmacy assistant

Just a few hours before Matunkha Development Trust donated K16 million worth drugs to Rumphi District Hospital on Wednesday,police in the district arrested a pharmacy assistant at the facility, Robert Mwale, for allegedly stealing 50 viles of anti-rabies vaccine and a carton of oral rehydration salt.

According to Rumphi Police publicist Noel Kamchenga, police early on Wednesday received a complaint from the hospital on the issue and followed up, resulting in the arrest of the suspect.

Mwale hails from Kambale Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhata Bay.

Earlier in November, a magistrate court in Rumphi convicted and sentenced Nancy Mbale, a hospital attendant at the hospital, to 30 months’ imprisonment for stealing medical drugs.
