An 18-year-old man is in police custody at Balaka Police Station for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 3-year-old girl child.
The suspect, Wyson Saladi, who is a bicycle Kabaza Operator within Balaka Township is alleged to have committed the offence on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Majiga 2 Village in Balaka District.
It is alleged that on the particular day, the suspect who is uncle to the victim took the girl to the market inorder to buy himself slippers.
The suspect told the grandmother to the victim that he would bring back the victim as soon as he bought the slippers.
The suspect brought back the victim around 16:00 hours and the grandmother did not suspect anything until around 18:00 hours when she took the girl to bathroom.
When the grandmother started bathing the private parts of the victim, the victim started crying and upon being questioned, she told her grandmother that she was feeling pain explaining that the suspect inserted something into her private parts.
After the act, the suspect took a piece of cloth and wiped off the victim’s private parts.
The matter was reported to police where a medical report was issued to the victim and medical examination conducted at Balaka District Hospital revealed that the girl was indeed defiled.
The suspect, Wyson Saladi, who comes from Mphepo Zinayi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka District, will appear before court soon to answer a charge of having sexual intercourse with a girl child contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
