CCJP urges youths to shun political violence
Poverty among youths is said to be a key factor contributing to their involvement in political violence and urged authorities to provide job opportunities and soft loans to empower young people
The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in Zomba Diocese has called on youths to refrain from being used by politicians to incite violence during the campaign period leading up to the September 16 general election.
Rhoda Ng’ambi, Assistant Project Officer for CCJP in Zomba Diocese, made the appeal during a community engagement event at Chipini Parish ground aimed at sensitizing youths about the election.

Ng’ambi emphasized the need to empower young people with relevant information about the election, as they are often used to incite violence.
She urged youths to maintain peace and unity in their areas and to take responsibility by participating in the election process in a good manner.
“We remind youths to refrain from being used as tools of politicians to ignite political violence, as the law will take its course. Instead, they can show their responsibility by casting their votes and choosing leaders of their choice in large numbers” Ng’ambi said .
Davie Kazembe, a participant from Sailesi village, applauded CCJP for the strong message, saying it would help youths avoid political violence.
Kazembe noted that poverty among youths is a key factor contributing to their involvement in political violence and urged authorities to provide job opportunities and soft loans to empower young people.
Zakeyasi Locky, Chairperson of a Community-Based Organization in S/b traditional Nkapita, reminded youths to exercise their role as good citizens by promoting tolerance, unity, and change in their areas.
