The AU Commission has since pledged to assist Malawi through lobbying of member states to get involved in the recovery and reconstruction efforts. They have also expressed intent to help Malawi build resilience so that future natural disasters do not render grave damage to lives and property.

In his remarks, Chakwera expressed gratitude to AU for deliberate solidarity, which he said will factor into and transcend through his Operation Tigwirane Manja initiative.

President Chakwera initiated Operation Tigwirane Manja to mobilize local and international support towards victims of Cyclone Freddy and rebuilding of public infrastructure across the country.
