Nomination papers presented to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) by People’s Transformation Party (PETRA) presidential aspirant, Kamuzu Chiwambo, have failed the MEC’s preliminary inspection.

Among others, the papers lack candidacy consent from Chiwambo’s running mate, Chris Bulukwacha, who was absent when Chiwambo presented his papers.

Reports indicate that Bulukwacha failed to start off from South Africa to Malawi yesterday because of flight delay.

Reacting to the news, Chiwambo said he is not sad about the development as he had already informed MEC of his running mate’s situation.

“I am ready to form alliances with parties that are ready and have the same ambition,” said Chiwambo.

He stressed his commitment to end corruption and bring new wisdom to take care of Malawians if voted into power.

MEC Chief Elections Officer, Andrew Mpesi, said the Commission will continue to follow the law without favour.

“Make sure that your ideas are aligning with the laws of elections,” said Mpesi.

He reminded aspirants that the code of conducted signed has rules that they should follow when conducting campaign.
