On Tuesday, August 5, the three appeared in court to respond to aggravated robbery charges, to which they pleaded not guilty.
They requested bail, highlighting their family responsibilities, particularly Banda, who mentioned that he has a young child who needs his care.
In his ruling, Magistrate Nyirenda explained that bail was denied due to concerns about the accused’s weak community and family ties.
He noted that they are already in custody for other serious charges, including murder, for which they are currently on remand.
Nyirenda expressed that granting bail would undermine public confidence in the justice system and could endanger lives of the accused.
“The community might view the court’s decision as a failure to uphold justice, which could disturb public order and security,” said Nyirenda.
Previously, Magaleta and Tsoka were answering a case of aggravated robbery when State Prosecutor, Dalileni Kalanguluka, added Banda as the third accused.
The case has been adjourned until August 21, 2025, when the accused will formally enter a plea regarding the first set of charges.
