The High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned to 19 October 2023 an application for appeal from a Zambian national, Kebby Malambo, who was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labor for being found in possession with 22 pieces of ivory worth over MK53 million.
Senior State Advocate Siphosaa Kajumie, in an interview with Nthanda Times on Friday, described the appeal as a delayed application considering that the appellant had enough time to plead for a lighter punishment at the Senior Resident Magistrate Court before he was given the sentence.

“The appeal should be dismissed because the appellant has not shown the basis why the appeal should come, he has appealed out of time and he has failed to give reasons as to why he has appealed out of time. When you look at the grounds that he has given they do not really form a good basis why the court should allow the appeal.” Kajumie said.
In mitigation, Malambo told the court to consider his application as he is the first offender, he is a bread winner and that he is sick and needs to go for operation.
On 1st December 2022, Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda sentenced Kebby Malambo to 15 years in prison.
